WHAT IT IS
Sketch & Chill is a pop-up intimate figure drawing night that’s a lil’ weird and a whole lot of chill. We hire models via the stage performing and modeling community in Bellingham: circus, drag, burlesque, cosplay, etc. Models will pose in ranges of 20 to 30 second gestures, 1 to 10 minute poses, and the night will end with a 30 minute or hour-long pose. Models will also have the option to perform a routine or two! Artist can submit their drawings to be judged for fun prizes! We create a lounge-style atmosphere with good vibes and smooth music: lo-fi, hip-hop, downbeat electro, etc.

Nathaniel [he/him] is a Latinx writer and filmmaker. He has a BA in Fine Art (Illustration & Photography) with experience in directing film, animation, and art events. His first gallery show, at the Atomic Cowboy in St. Louis, MO (2007), showcased a series of illustrated-pinups entitled Women of Mass Destruction in protest of political unrest toward the Middle East. In 2009, he started an art collective in Kansas City called The Emerald Space and launched a team of 10 artists and musicians in one old warehouse to grow into a local phenomenon. Their largest running event, Botnet, consistently received 100 to 200 patrons a night. While there, Nathaniel managed the studio and workspace, and he co-produced a fashion show, a student art show and a play by She & Her Productions, one of the first Lesbian-led troupes in Kansas City. During this time, while directing and animating music videos, Nathaniel discovered his passion for filmmaking. In Brooklyn, NY, he freelanced in film and design and worked with the company Flocabulary. He directed teams of animators to make hundreds of educational hip hop videos for thousands of clientele, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In Bellingham, he has focused on putting his own visions into writing and films, including the Bleedingham selection, Ghoul Station (2018). He co-creates with his wife Laine, and he's father to a lively and well loved 3-year-old child.

Laine [she/they] holds an MA in Journalism, a BA in Acting and a 2-year diploma in Acting & Directing from Mark Weil’s Ilkhom Theater School of Drama in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She has performed on stages in Seattle, New York and Tashkent in both the Russian and English languages. She has taught and continued to take classes in all those places as well, including in clown, dance and vocal performance. She passionately loves diverse communities, including the Arabic-speaking immigrant community with whom she used to teach English in Brooklyn. Her launch into film began with writing and directing the short film Trust (2014), a modern retelling of an ancient love story, played by diverse heroes. Laine co-founded Moriah Pictures in 2016 with her husband, Nathaniel Soria. Together they directed and produced several short films, including the festival-touring Ghoul Station (2018). She writes and has published the young adult thriller, Princess Awakening: Tower of Sand, a love-labor of the 2020 quarantine. She is a bartenderat Galloway’s, an invested mom and an artistic- and life-partner to Nathaniel Soria.
